It’s all about the people. When it comes to leading people, there are two quotes that stand out in my mind. The first is “People follow leaders.” I’ve heard it before and I suspect I will hear it again. That’s because it’s not true.

People don’t follow leaders… Leaders follow people, for better or for worse. The second quote is “Leaders are made, not born.” I have heard it before, too, but I will never forget the day I read it for the very first time. The reason why this one resonates with me so strongly is because of what I have learned about leadership in my own life. And what I have learned is quite simple: Leaders are made, not born. Leadership begins with followership.

If you want to be a leader, you must first be a follower—a true follower of Christ who lives by the principles He teaches us all to live by.
